Choose the encounter before entering
Brutus is a solo instance reached through the cow-field gates. The normal gate dialogue asks you to release Brutus; read the confirmation before starting. This is a dangerous encounter, so prepare your supplies before entering.
Carrying an Abyssal potato changes the gate interaction to the Demonic challenge. You can also use the potato on the gate. Confirming consumes one potato; a failed instance start refunds it. Keep potatoes out of your inventory when you intend to practise the normal fight.
Read the normal attack cycle
Normal Brutus uses a weak crush attack between specials. His specials alternate between a charge and a sequence of three stomps. A growl warns of the charge; a snort warns of a stomp.
Move clear of the charge path and the stomp area. Each stomp can take a fresh position from where you are standing, so moving once and stopping is not a complete answer to the whole sequence. Watch the next warning before returning to attack.
Normal special hits ignore defence and protection prayer. Their damage scales with your maximum Hitpoints, from roughly 30–40%, capped at 19 per hit. Movement matters even when the ordinary melee attacks feel harmless. Brutus also responds to extended time outside melee reach; do not plan around a permanent distant safespot.
Unlock the harder attempt
At the Temple of the Eye, the catalytic guardian offers travel to the Scar. The Scar's stepping stones and Ventriculus route lead to harvestable abyssal growth. Leave inventory space to collect a potato. The stepping stones cannot be crossed while frozen, rooted or stunned.
Demonic Brutus adds ghost sequences and later prayer-orb mechanics. His ordinary attack can hit much harder: the unprotected maximum is 43, while Protect from Melee reduces that attack to a small hit capped at four. That protection does not replace reacting to specials. Attacks against Brutus are blocked during his Demonic special sequence, so use that time to handle the mechanic.
Know which rewards you are chasing
Normal Brutus awards a raw T-bone and bull-bone reward, with Bonecrusher handling the bones when applicable. His unique pre-roll can replace the ordinary supply roll with Mooleta, an empty bottomless milk bucket or cow slippers.
Demonic Brutus instead awards Brutus slippers and its pet roll. Both encounters have code-owned reward handling: a generic static drop list does not describe the complete reward path.
